Rolland and Heidi Baker are the founders of Iris Global, a Christian missions movement committed to expressing the love of God in word and deed among the world’s poorest and most forgotten. Since beginning Iris in 1980, they have carried the gospel with compassion, joy, and power into some of the most desperate and spiritually resistant places on earth.
Their journey has been marked by radical dependence on God’s presence and provision. In Mozambique, once listed as the poorest country in the world, they took in abandoned children, preached the gospel in villages, and watched as revival spread through entire communities. What began with a single dilapidated orphanage has grown into a global family of missionaries and ministries serving in dozens of nations.
Iris Global embodies a holistic expression of the gospel: evangelism, church planting, Bible schools, children’s centers, primary and secondary education, vocational training, medical care, well-drilling, agriculture, crisis relief, and creative arts. At the core is the conviction that “love looks like something”—bread for the hungry, family for the orphan, healing for the sick, and the message of Jesus for all.
A significant new chapter in this vision is Iris University, launched in Pemba, Mozambique, to provide excellent Christ-centered education. What began as a dream in the early 2000s has now become a reality, with thousands of students being equipped through Iris schools across Mozambique and, most recently, the opening of a full university. Iris University exists to awaken knowledge through excellent, integral, and innovative education, raising up future leaders who are spiritually grounded, academically prepared, and ready to impact their nation and the world.
Through Iris Global and Iris University, the Bakers’ legacy continues: seeing the poor lifted in both body and spirit, whole communities transformed by the love of Jesus, and a new generation empowered to carry the Kingdom of God to the ends of the earth.
